Antioxidants

SHARE: Share

When it comes about antioxidants we all know that green tea is one of the most popular choices but, did you know that there are other, natural and organic products, with a strong antioxidant component?

Most foods contain some antioxidants. The total amount of antioxidant in a food (Total Antioxidant Capacity or TAC), can be measured by chemical means.

Here are some of the best natural antioxidant sources:
Cloves (ground), 314,450 TAC
Cinnamon (ground), 267,540 TAC
Oregano (dried), 200,130 TAC
Turmeric (dried), 159,280 TAC
Acai, 102,700 TAC

Everything that exceeds 100,000 TAC units per 100 g food, is called “super food”. It is extremely important to consume these super foods as they are, meaning, alive, not exposed to high temperatures (ie. boiled). High temperature involved in the cooking process will literally destroy the enzymes and most of the antioxidants.

Maybe the easiest method of consumption is to transform (or add) them in teas or juices.

If you are a tea fan, you can prepair a cloves tea in no time. Remember to keep the boiling temperature under 40C.

If you prefer a fresh juice, there are many possibilities. Watermelon (140 TAC) for instance is not really considered a super food but it has some antioxidants. It is extremely easy to make a watermelon juice and add some cloves in it. This way we can increase the juice’s antioxidant power and we also get hydrated.

There are some guys who undergo periodic colon cleanse. I would recommend to stop that. Why? Because it is not needed. If you consume these super foods and drink enough water, your colon will be clean enough, without that painful processes or drugs. The natural way is always the best one.
