Important Onsite SEO tips for your Website

SHARE: Share

As a webmaster, we all want readers to our website. But… most of the times it is hard to get decent amount of traffic. And in case you own an e-commerce website, it is even more complicated because now you don’t need just readers, you want buyers. Meaning, you need targeted traffic.

I know many people who pay lots of cash for links and advertisement. While this might be a good solution, it involves a high investment. But with some simple onsite optimization you can reduce your expenses to a large extent and can rank easily in search engines for less competitive keywords.

Here are some important onsite SEO tips (Search Engine Optimization Tips):

One of the most important things that you MUST optimize is your site’s Title and meta Description.

The most important tags are these: title, description

For instance, check this post: Sensation White 2010 at Amsterdam Arena

Right click in that page and chose “view source”.

We have a title tag:
<title>Sensation White 2010 at Amsterdam Arena</title>

We have a meta description tag:
<meta name="description" content="I am a Sensation White fan. I am planning to visit Amsterdam on 03 July 2010. If you wanna join, buy Sensation White Tickets here." />

And we have a keywords tag:
<meta name="keywords" content="amsterdam arena, andré tanneberger, armin van buuren, darren emerson (one of the underworld members),david guetta, deadmau5, erick e, erick morillo, fedde le grand, felix da housecat, ferry corsten, johan gielen, laidback luke, marco v, mason, paul van dyk, rank 1, sander kleinenberg, sander van doorn, sebastian ingrosso, sensation white, sensation white 2010 tickets, sensation white tikets, steve angello, tiësto, tocadisco, white sensation, blog" />

If you’ll read SEO related articles you will see that some guys suggest that the keywords tag is useless. They say that Google no longer use it. However, they admit that some other search engines might still take it into consideration. Therefore, I suggest adding some keywords. Why? Nobody will ever tell you that adding the keywords tag will hurt your site’s PR or SERPs. So, why not use it?

Now that we have the meta tags ready, let’s go back to the king. I mean, to the content. (“The content is king!”)

Suggestions for content writing:
- Write and publish only original content
- Make it at least 500 words. Search engines love stories, not synopses.
- Write the article with your own words, do not add excessive keywords but still, do not neglect them. If you have a 500 words article on “Sensation White”, you can mention that word 2 or 3 times in the entire article. Do not mention your keywords one after another. Leave some space between. For instance, if you sell tickets to a concert, write a few words about the concert in which you mention your keyword (“Sensation White” in this case). In the next paragraph you can mention the keyword again but now you add two extra keywords, “buy” and “tickets”. So, in this paragraph you will have “buy Sensation White tickets” as your keyword. You can emphasize keywords by making them bold.
- It is important (where possible) to link your current article to other articles posted in the past. This way search engines will index and reindex your site constantly.
- When you link to external sites add the nofollow tag. This way you prevent PageRank leaking. Also, consider adding a target=”_blank” to external links.

OK. So, we have a great article and meta tags. What now?

Publish the article and add it to social media services. If you have a blog, you can (and should) use social media plugins. This way, you ease the process of submission. If I see a social media icon on a site, there is a much higher probability for me to submit (stumble, digg, tweet) it to social media site than if there isn’t any.

Formula of success: great content, great keywords and the use of social media services.
Now you might ask? Didn’t you forget something? What about backlinks???

What about them? :)

I had an inner page with PR4, with no backlinks. It was 2nd in SERP for my desired keyword. Yes, backlinks are important, but not THAT important.
